Meeting/Event Information
Illinois Chapter usually meets once each month, August through June, on Tuesdays. The Chapter’s annual golf outing and fund raiser always takes place in September. Generally 70 to 80 members gather at monthly meetings, which makes them an excellent networking opportunity for members interested in meeting and developing other contacts in the industry.
The State of Illinois requires professional engineers to complete 30 PDHs (Professional Development Hours) of training for license renewal. The Illinois Chapter ASHRAE offers educational programs with more than enough PDHs to help engineers satisfy this requirement.
Presentations from previous Chapter seminars and meetings may be downloaded after logging into the "Member Area." The Illinois Chapter of ASHRAE stores past presentations. You must be a member to access them from this website. If you are not yet a member, sign-up today or contact us for more information.

Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) or heat pump? Which is best? Each has its own advantages and shortcomings. Find out what these are at the Illinois Chapter ASHRAE Oct. 13 dinner meeting. Two expert presenters will compare both alternative systems and their performance in two buildings.
Jeffrey D. Spitler, PhD, PE, will use a case study of the ASHRAE Headquarters building in Atlanta to make a living lab comparison of ground source heat pumps & variable refrigerant flow systems. Dr. Spitler is Regents Professor of mechanical engineering at Oklahoma State University. He is a past president and Fellow of the International Building Performance Simulation Association, and a Fellow of ASHRAE. His research focuses on ground-source heat pump systems and load calculations for buildings.
Andy Hubner will present will a case study for a design-build high rise building in Chicago, reviewing the comparison that was done between heat pumps & variable refrigerant flow. He will review considerations for consulting engineers who are designing a VRF project especially one using VRF in the city. Andy is the Director of Business Development and Senior Project Manager for Premier Mechanical, Inc., located in greater Chicagoland. He has managed projects ranging from under $100,000 to over $7 million, including VRF & Heat Pump projects ranging from 10 tons to over 300 tons. He has installed varied brands of VRF Systems.
