Steven Barrett, PE, the Lead FP/FA Engineer from the SmithGroup’s Chicago office, will cover requirements for duct-mounted smoke detectors, fire dampers, smoke dampers and combination dampers — and how they are actuated. Learn these and many other smoke control system design fundamentals. Steven has more than 13 years of design experience in the practice of fire protection, fire alarm, building code, and life safety. He has worked on projects in multiple market sectors including health, higher education, science and technology, and workplace. He has managed multiple projects of varying scales; mentored junior engineers; and inspected, surveyed, and commissioned the construction of fire protection/fire alarm/life safety systems. Steven has served on the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Cut Score licensing committee. He is a member of several subcommittees in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. Mr. Barrett also teaches Plumbing and Fire Protection Design as an associate adjunct professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
